Big Beam Weekend: Impacts to I-495 N
Traffic Impact to/from McLean Pres on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025
During the January 24–27 weekend*, crews will install five lines of massive steel girders extending 295 feet in length across northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) for a new Express Lanes ramp that will connect the Dulles Toll Road to northbound I-495.
VDOT is calling this major bridge girder operation the “Big Beam Weekend”.
*Work is weather-dependent; in the event of inclement weather, the Big Beam Weekend will be rescheduled for the following weekend, Jan. 31 through Feb. 3.
Closures are scheduled to begin at 9pm on Friday, Jan. 24 with all lanes on Georgetown Pike reopened and shifted onto the new northern section of the bridge.
All Beltway ramps are scheduled to be reopened by no later than 5am on Monday, Jan. 27.
What Should Travelers Do?
Motorists are urged to stay away from northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) near Tysons in Virginia heading toward the American Legion Bridge the entire weekend of January 24–27 and should choose alternate routes to McLean Pres. If travel through the area is unavoidable, drivers should expect delays and traffic backups.
