English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes help non-native English speakers advance their conversational skills and learn more about American culture.
We offer classes in McLean and Herndon. We offer multiple class levels and match each student’s skill level to the class that is right for them.

Our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes help non-native English speakers improve and advance their language skills. Some of our students know little or no English; others have studied English in their home country. Many can read and write English but need practice in English conversation. We try to meet the needs of students at all levels.
Instruction includes grammar, pronunciation, reading, and American culture and customs. Part of the reading material and discussions of holidays and traditions may include Christian teaching.

Students should enter through the double doors on the left front of the church building. Classes are held downstairs.
If you have not taken an ESOL class with us before, a verbal test is required for class placement; see details below.
WEDNESDAY CLASS | Meets weekly on Wednesday mornings, 9:30–11:45am
THURSDAY CLASS | Meets weekly on Thursday evenings, 7–9pm
Registration Fee: There is a one-time registration fee of $50, which covers the cost of the course and includes all teaching materials. Students can pay online or by check (make checks payable to “McLean Presbyterian Church” and on the memo line, write a note: “ESOL“).
Registrations are accepted throughout the year as space allows.

Meets weekly on Thursday evenings, 7:30–9pm
In-Person Registration and placement testing is on Thursday, Sept. 11 between 7:30—9pm at Capital Presbyterian Herndon. Up to three levels of English classes are taught.

Help international friends in our community to grow confidently in their English-speaking abilities! Serve as a teacher, teaching assistant, conversation partner, or Hospitality Team member. New teachers work alongside experienced instructors.
No formal training is required—just a willingness to meet with and pray for your students, and help them to take a step forward in their English abilities.
