Please read below for an update from Chief of Staff Tom Pilsch on our proposed building expansion. Save the date to vote on these plans: Sunday, October 20.

Next week we will begin detailed meetings with architects to refine the design of the proposed expansion and repurposing of our current building. As we think through that process, I’m reminded of how our building has been used for the Lord these past 30 years.

My two boys are among thousands who have passed through our Sunday school classes and learned to love Jesus. Countless discipleship ministries helped people of all ages grow in Biblical knowledge and joyful obedience. This building has also served as a launching pad and gathering place for scores of growing ministries over the years, notably Romanian Christian Enterprises, Wilma’s Partners, and Oakseed Ministries.

Pray for wisdom and insight for our architects and ministry leaders as we work together to design the expansion. Pray our building will continue to be used for Kingdom growth.

July Update

Last month the Fairfax County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) approved our proposed building expansion. As we continue to celebrate, let’s remember why we’re embarking on this project. This expansion will allow us to better fulfill our mission – glorifying and enjoying God by making disciples who make a difference through grace-filled worship, community, and missions.

For the past few years our capacity to add new disciples and grow in depth of discipleship has been hindered by limited parking, classrooms, and ministry space. The changes the BZA approved allow us to increase the maximum number of parking spaces from 328 to 515 and build approximately 27,200 square feet, creating more space for our church and ministries to continue working towards our God-given mission.

What’s Next?

We are working with all our ministries to make sure all our needs are addressed in the proposed design and developing the site plan so that work on the parking lot can begin even while the building plans are fine tuned.

Board of Zoning Appeals Update

It is with deep joy and thankfulness that I am able to report that the Fairfax County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) unanimously approved our proposed building plans! We are tremendously grateful for the Lord’s provision and your prayers as we have walked through this process. Now that we have BZA approval, we will bring these plans before our congregation for a vote (see below for details).

So, what’s next? First, please keep praying. Pray that we will be in step with God’s will and united in our purpose. Pray that we will grow in breadth and depth, that our building would be a resource to bring more people to the eternal hope of the gospel, particularly our neighbors, as well as a resource for us to continue to grow in depth of relationship with our savior.

This summer we will continue the planning process. This process is shared by our Congregation; we hope to hold a Congregational Meeting in October for you, our members, to vote on the proposed plans. Our goal is to start the Capital Campaign in spring 2020, and break ground in fall 2020. You can see a detailed timeline here.

As we proceed, we want to hear from our church family! Our elected leaders have been helping guide the process and we want every member to be able to participate. Here’s how we’ll be communicating about the plans:

  • Monthly Updates. I’ll be sharing an update on the process once a month in our Weekly e-mail that is sent out on Fridays. You can subscribe here.

  • Town Hall Meetings. Mark your calendars for the following town hall meetings: 9AM & 10:45AM on Sunday, September 15 and 10:45AM on Sunday, September 22. Locations forthcoming.

  • Community Group & One-on-One Meetings. I am available to visit your CG or to meet personally to talk in more detail. Please reach out to [email protected] to schedule a time.
