3 Big Rocks

Three priorities for our church as we look to the future.

Featured

At our May 2018 Congregational Meeting, we looked at three big rocks – three priorities for our church as we look to the future. Over the next five years, we will seek to continue making disciples who make a difference, grow in depth through a modest building expansion, and grow in breadth through establishing a site in Fairfax.

1. Making Disciples Who Make a Difference

The Work of the Church

As we look to where God is leading us (see below), we remain focused on our primary purpose. Christ has called us to make disciples, gathering those far from him and equipping them for joyful obedience to him. Worship, Community Groups, Sunday school classes, and missions will continue apace!

Pray with us:

Pray that we will each continue to grow in joyful obedience as followers of Christ; for our Community Groups, that they would be places of authentic, vulnerable, and tenacious care; for our men’s ministry and adult education ministries as we relaunch and reorganize our efforts; for all ministries of this church, that they would be grace-filled and Christ-forming.

2. Modest Building Expansion

Growing in Breadth

Since 2016, when we purchased the property next door, we have discussed the future of our building. We want to use our space to welcome newcomers and help members grow in spiritual depth. We’re considering a plan with secure space for kids and rooms to accommodate adult ed. classes, renewal groups, and Bible studies (and more parking!). We hope to have a plan to vote on in 2019 and to break ground in 2020.

Pray with us:

Pray for the zoning and county approval process, for smooth and quick approval; for the plans as they come together, that they would adequately address our needs for Children’s Ministry, Student Ministry, Adult Ed., and Care/Counseling; pray about giving to this effort in 2019.

3. Multisite: Fairfax 2019

Growing in Breadth

For 75 years our church has followed Christ’s call to make disciples – to reach the D.C. area with the grace that changes everything. In order to see grace-filled churches spring up around the Capital region, we are becoming a multisite church – one church that worships at multiple times/locations on a Sunday. Our next site will be launching in Fairfax in 2019!

Pray with us:

Pray for an available worship space that will also accommodate our vision for Children’s Ministry; for the opportunity to reach college students at George Mason through this site; for site staff: Site Pastor Rob Yancey and our Director of Children’s & Connections Ministries Chelsea Custer, for encouragement and wisdom.
